Akron Closes out Marshall 99-88
The Akron Zips basketball team won yet again at home in a very close game Saturday night against Marshall 99-88. Their win last night made it the teams 23rd straight win at James A Rhodes Arena. The Zips were led by Junior guard Noah Robotham who started off hot from the 3 point line, who was six for seven shooting from the arc, and finished with 27 points. Senior forward Kwan Cheatham was huge in the final minutes of the game, making three clutch 3 pointers to seal the deal. Akron limited Marshall to 5 for 16 shooting (31.3%) from the 3 point line in the second half, after letting them shoot 7 for 11 (63.6%) in the first half.
Senior center Isaiah Johnson was perfect from the field and was 8 for 8 finishing with 16 points. Also scoring for Akron were Sophomore guard Josh Williams who played well knocking down 3 3-pointers, and pitched in 12 points, while Junior guard Jimond Ivey added 12 points, nine rebounds and four assists. The team as a whole shot excellent from the 3-point line making 11 3 pointers. Akron was able to go on a run late in the second half to seal the victory.
Akron will play next against UC-Irvine Wednesday night in the Sun Bowl Invitational in El Paso, Texas. UC-Irvine is led by Senior guard Jaron Martin who is shooting 76.9% from the field. The Zips will look to win their second straight game.
