Akron Defeats Coppin State 87-63
Akron Men’s basketball defeated the Coppin State Eagles 87 to 63 Wednesday night. The Zips started off slow to start the game but started to knock down shots. Josh Williams pitched in 15 points and was 4 for 9 from 3-point range. So far Jimond Ivey has been playing well in place of injured starter Noah Robotham, he led all scorers with 20 points, and also had five assists and five rebounds. In the first half the Zips held the Eagles to 40% shooting, and the team shot a decent percentage from the field making 16 shots of 30 attempts.
Tavian Dunn Martin came off the bench and contributed well the entire game scoring a total of 12 points. He has been shooting very well from the 3-point line and he was 2 for 3 from deep. The Zips improved their field goal percentage in the second half and started making more of their shots going 13 for 21(61%). Also, they made Coppin State turn the ball over a total of 13 times in the win.
The Zips are away tonight at Gonzaga who are ranked number 8 in the NCAA’s top 25 best college basketball teams. Gonzaga is undefeated and are led by junior guard Nigel Williams-Goss who leads all scorers on his team with 13.7 points per contest. Akron will look to get their first road win of the season.
