Akron keeps winning streak alive with win over Eastern Michigan 70-63

The Akron Zips Men’s basketball team defeated the Eastern Michigan Eagles by a score of 70-63 to win their 27th straight home game at James A. Rhodes Arena. Akron is still undefeated inIMG_0663 the MAC at 6-0 and currently have a record of 16 and 3 on the season. The Zips got off to a fast start scoring the first eight points of the game causing Eastern Michigan to call a timeout. The Zips were able to force the Eagles to 11 turnovers in the win.

Senior center Isaiah Johnson was a force in the paint all game and was 7 for 11 from the court finishing with 21 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Jimond Ivey and Antino Jackson both scored 11 points respectively. At halftime the Zips led the Eagles by 10 38-28, and then in the second half the Eagles went on a few runs and with two minutes left in the game the Eagles were able to only trail the Zips by 10. Akron was able to close out the game with free throws from Antino and Isaiah.

Akron will be away next against MAC opponent Western Michigan Tuesday night at 7 pm at University Arena in Kalamazoo, Michigan.  The Zips beat the Eagles in  the first game and will look to sweep the series and get to .500 on the road.
