Akron loses 2nd Straight Game at Home against Miami 79-75

The Akron Men’s Basketball team lost a tough game on Senior Night at home Tuesday night to the Miami Redhawks. Starting Zips Seniors Kwan Cheatham and Isaiah Johnson were recognized before the game, for all their hard work and consistent scoring throughout their careers as Zips.

Junior guard Antino Jackson scored 12 points, three assists, and four rebounds. The seniors Cheatham, and Johnson combined for 19 points and were 8 for 11 from the court. Akron shot very poor from the 3 point line in the first half and the team was 6 of 19(31.6%) shooting. Akron led Miami at halftime 38-33, but in the second half Akron was outscored  and outrebounded by Miami which ended up costing them the game.

In the second half, Akron shot just 14 of 25(56%) from the court, and were unable to keep a decent lead throughout the game and continued to let Miami come back and get within a few points. The Akron Zips had a total of 13 turnovers, and the Miami Redhawks scored 26 points from those turnovers.

In the final minutes of the game, the Redhawks were leading the Zips by 3 points. As the shot clock was winding down, Antino Jackson shot a 3 pointer to tie the game, but missed it. Miami grabbed the rebound and knocked down free throws to end the game.

Akron will play their last regular season game at Kent State Friday night at 9 pm. The Zips will look to beat the Flashes after suffering a loss to them at home.
