Cavs Head into Thanksgiving with a “Love”ly Win
CLEVELAND- There is a furnace, then there is the sun, and then there is Kevin Love during the first quarter of the Cavs 137-125 win over the Portland Trail Blazers. Love went absolutely bonkers in the first frame, dropping a franchise record for points in a quarter with 34 on 11/14 shooting. The mark is also the NBA record for points in an opening quarter, and trails only the Warriors Klay Thompson (37) for points in any quarter. Of those 11 made field goals, eight were from behind the arc, helping the Cavaliers break their single game record for three pointers in a game with 21, breaking the old record of 19.
Love finished the game with 40 points, in what was by far his best game in a Cavalier uniform. He also added seven rebounds.
It is always a good sign when you have a player have a triple-double and it isn’t the main headline of the game. That was the case for LeBron James tonight, as he put up a very impressive 31 points, 10 rebounds, and 13 assists.
With his 13 assists, James passed Guy Rodgers for 17th on the NBA all-time assists list, with his total now at 6,927.
It was a total team effort for the wine and gold, as Kyrie Irving added 20 points. Channing Frye was also big off the bench, working well with James in their trade mark pick and pop game. He finished with 14 points.
Damian Lillard, as usual, led the way for the Blazers. He finished with a team high 40 points, while adding 11 assists and seven rebounds.
It was a rough night however for Canton native CJ McCollum. The Canton GlenOak High School graduate finished the game with 13 points and was kept in check by the Cavs the whole night.
