Freshman Lillard lift Bowling Green Past Central Michigan

Cleveland, Oh-WHAT A GAME!

The Bowling Green Falcons upset the Central Michigan Chippewas 62-59. Bowling Green trialed for most of the game but with some clutch shooting from freshman Antwon Lillard, the Falcons were able to come out with the upset.

It was back and forth the entire game, Central held the lead for most of it, but the Falcons stayed around and made the plays at the end of the game to get the win. After Lillard’s three, Central Michigan then turned the ball over on their next possession. Ismail Ali then made two free throws to put The Falcons up by three. On the ensuing inbound, Bowling Green Stole the ball and finalized the win on a fantastic game.

Up next for the Falcons is Akron, as they will play the Zips tomorrow at 6:30.

Heading into halftime Central Michigan held a 31-25 lead over the Falcons of Bowling Green. The pace was slow. Central Michigan had been in control of the pace. When they were in the half-court offense they use a lot of the shot clock and that had dictated the pace at that time.

Central Michigan was led in scoring by Chris Fowler who has 9 point on 4 of 8 shooting. Rayshawn Simmons had another 6 points for Central Michigan. John Simons had 9 rebounds for Central. As they held the rebounding advantage 21 to 20.

For Bowling Green Antwon Lillard led all scorers with 11 points. The Falcons didn’t get much production out of anyone else. The next highest scorer was Wes Alcegaire with 4 points.

Central Michigan shot just over 41% from the field and only 3 of 13 from deep. While Bowling Green was shooting just under 35% from the field and had only connected on 2 of 7 from the three point arc.

The Second Half was a different story. Central Michigan lead for most of the half but the Falcons stayed around. Central Michigan was led by Chris Fowler and Bryalon Rayson. Fowler ended with 16 points and Rayson ended with 13. Overall Central shot 41% and went 4 of 20 from distance. But they struggled at the free throw line. Only hitting 13 of 24.

The big story for Bowling Green was Antwon Lillard, a true freshman making his second career start. He ended with 26 points and the game winner. A three with 13 seconds remaining to but the Falcons ahead 60-59. Demajeo Wiggins added another 10 points for the Falcons. The Falcons finished by shooting 50% from the floor and 5 of 13 from three. They faired a bit better at the free throw line. Hitting 11 of 18 from there.
