Lookout List for April

March is finally over, but if you’re anything like me, that means you’re still at home social distancing. So naturally, you’re probably looking for the next best thing to binge, watch, or play. Luckily for you, I have some new things coming in April, and some not so new things that you might want to watch or play this April!

  1. Mrs. America, FX Original Series, Hulu, April 15th Ever since I saw the trailer for this series (and how can you forget, it was RIGHT before the Oscars) I was immediately intrigued. It centers around the true story of ratifying the Equal Rights Ammendment, and second wave feminist icons like Gloria Steinem, Betty Friedan, Shirley Chisholm, Bella Abzug and Jill Ruckelshaus. Phyllis Schlafly, a conservative woman, is strongly against this, and is played by Cate Blancett. I’m really excited to see how this show plays out, and how this really interesting part of history unfolds!
  2. Tiger King, Limited Documentary Series, Netflix, Streaming now Okay okay I know this isn’t really new for April since it came out last week but y’all. Y’ALL. This show is a ride from start to finish. This documentary series follows Joe Exotic, and his life owning a zoo in Oklahoma, and the conspiracy that leads to his arrest. This show is crazy with the people involved, the animals, the lies, and the true facts that feel absolutely insane. If you haven’t seen it yet, you’ve at least seen the memes surrounding it. It’s so surreal I watched it all in one day. No spoilers, but the music is amazing (Here Kitty Kitty is probably my favorite). It’s streaming on Netflix right now!
  3. Final Fantasy VII Remake, Video Game, Playstation 4, April 10th For those of you who don’t know, I was fortunate enough to go to PAX East this year. It’s a yearly gaming expo/convention and I had an absolute blast. One of the things there was of course, the remake of Final Fantasy VII. Square Enix had a meet and greet, game demos, and a very nice merchandise table, and I wasn’t able to interact with any of those things. The lines were always capped, but my boyfriend was able to snag a very well dressed chocobo. I will come out and say it: I personally haven’t played any of the Final Fantasy games, but as a gamer I know the hype is real. Turn based combat is back, and the characters look better than ever before. I’m looking forward to trying this game out! It releases on Playstation 4 April 10th.
  4. Sonny With a Chance/Fish Hooks, TV Series, Disney+, April 3rd Do you ever think of a show you used to watch, then wonder why it isn’t streaming anywhere yet? That’s how I felt about Disney Channels animated series Fish Hooks as well as their live action show Sonny With a Chance. Both of these great Disney Channel shows are finally coming to Disney+ this Friday, and I can’t wait for that nostalgia bomb. While you’re waiting, watch all episodes of Diary of a Future President!
  5. Parasite, Movie, Hulu, April 8th This fantastic movie could not have come to Hulu at a better time. If you haven’t watched Parasite yet, now you have no excuse not to (unless you don’t have Hulu I guess). This fantastic film is groundbreaking, as it is the first non-english film to win Best Picture in the Academy Awards. I can’t really explain the plot very well, but themes such as classism are explored through this crazy, beautiful film that you just can’t look away from. Grab some ram-don and a peach and watch this film on Hulu April 8th.
  6. Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Video Game, Nintendo Switch, Available Now I have been looking forward to this game ever since it’s official announcement last year at E3. And I have to say, yeah it’s fantastic. If you haven’t already started this adorable life sim I suggest you do as it is a great game for someone who has nowhere to go. So you have time to water your flowers, collect fossils, shake trees, talk to villagers, fish, catch bugs, and other great stuff! It’s available now on the Nintendo Switch.
  7. Community, TV Series, Netflix (and Hulu), April 1st Community has been on Hulu for a while but now that it’s coming to Netflix I have an excuse to talk about this hilarious show. If you’re in college, then you’ll relate to this series created by Rick and Morty’s Dan Harmon. It follows Jeff, a lawyer without a license who comes to Greendale community college and forms a study group with Brita, Pierce, Abed, Annie, Troy, and Shirley, who’s played by WZIP’s very own Yvette Nicole Brown! This show has extremely witty humor and great storylines, as well as an amazing cast who play memorable characters. Someone get me a Troy and Abed in the Morning mug!
  8. Parks and Recreation, TV Series, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Streaming Now NBC is my favorite television network. They come up with some of my favorite shows like the previously mentioned Community, Brooklyn-99, Seinfeld, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, 30 Rock, SNL,The Office, and Good Girls. But if there is one show that I would recommend to anyone, especially now, is Parks and Recreation. This show will make you laugh and cry, the characters are outstanding and will make you laugh out loud. It’s quotable, memorable, and it makes you feel good. It’s on Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime, so lots of people have access to it. I will say season 1 isn’t the best, but get through it and some of the best television out there shines through. As I always say: In a world of Jeremy Jamm’s, be a Leslie Knope.
