Men’s Soccer will meet #8 Notre Dame at home.
The Zips men’s soccer team will host #8 Notre Dame on their home pitch Tuesday evening. After a two-game stretch that Saw Akron outplaying their opposition, Notre Dame should prove to be a mid-season challenge for the Zippers. The Fighting Irish will be aiming to bounce back from a home loss to Pitt.
Akron is rolling into the game having beaten their last two opponents at home. The Zips have dominated possession over the last 180 minutes. Their goal differential of 5-1 over that stretch and Skye Harter’s three assist outing against SIU Edwardsville are proof. Harter, a home-grown Midfield player from Copley, earned a spot on the College Soccer News’ National Team of the Week.
Ball possession will be one of the keys to this game also. Akron has proven their Forwards are capable of finding the net against ranked teams after netting four past #1 Michigan State. It’s no secret, however, you need the ball to score. If Harter can stay busy distributing the ball to the wings, then Akron will have their best chance at building their top-ten case with another win against a ranked opponent.
Harter has also been dangerous from the set-piece. He connected twice with defender Joao Moutinho from corner-kicks for goals in the last match. He will no doubt look to exercise this craft again should Notre Dame give him the opportunity.
The game starts at 7 on Tuesday, Oct 17.
