Akron Comes Up Short Against Kent State 70-67
The Akron Zips fell to the Kent State Golden Flashes Friday night ending the Zips 30 home game winning streak and suffering their first home loss of the season. Akron played behind most of the game and couldn’t close out the game in the final minutes.
Senior center Isaiah Johnson was 5 for 8 for 18 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Freshman guard Daniel Utomi was huge off the bench and provided Akron with much needed baskets, he was 4 for 4 from 3 point range, and finished with 16 points. Junior guard Antino Jackson also added 1o points.The Zips were leading the Flashes at halftime by five 36-31 but in the second half momentum swung to Kent State.
Kent State controlled the game in the closing minutes of the second half, with free throws and great defense. The Flashes had a total of six steals and made the Zips commit 13 turnovers to seal the deal.
Akron is away next against the Bowling Green Falcons Tuesday night at 9 pm at the Stroh Center. The Falcons average 74.9 points per game, and 12.8 assists per game. While, the Zips score about 78.2 points, and 14.9 assists per game. Akron will look to bounce back with a win and sweep the season series.
