SXSW

South by Southwest (SXSW) is an annual event of film, interactive media, music festivals and conferences that take place in mid-March in Austin, Texas.  SXSW has the largest music festival of its kind in the world.

WZIP was in attendance at SXSW 2017 and had the opportunity to see new artist as well as established artist well known in the music industry and beyond.  Everyone enjoyed the conferences because they provided good information along with continuous networking opportunities

The first set of performances came on March 14th @ The Mohawk Outdoor with appearances from Nebu Kiniza, 24hrs,  Council Gang, and Ugly God.  The show was insane and the huge moshpit of people going crazy confirmed this.

Throughout the week we heard keynote speakers discuss where the music industry is going, what’s to come and how to market yourself in the music industry. As a college radio station, we pride ourselves on perfecting our craft to ensure our listeners will keep tuning in.  WZIP was in the live audience for The Sway In The Morning Show with Sway Calloway and Heather B which was broadcasted on Sirius XM.  After the broadcast Heather B did an impromptu huge shout out to “The University of Akron,” “88.1 WZIP,” and “EzD” on social media.  Check out the action on WZIP Twitter (@WZIP), WZIP Instagram (@WZIPFM) or DJ EzD Twitter and Instagram (@EzisEverything).  

The experience and knowledge gained at SXSW will undoubtedly take WZIP to greater heights and recognition as a top college radio station in the country. We are looking forward to SXSW 2018 to continue preparing the University of Akron future leaders of the film and music industries.  It is our goal to not only attend but have an active role in future events at SXSW.
